In development · Prototype v0.5

Briefing

Low Sun is a 3D turn-based tactics game. Move infantry, armour and artillery across the board, take cities and factories, and cover each unit’s weakness with another.

If you grew up on Advance Wars, you will know what to do on turn one.

Boss fights

Two missions break the rules. The enemy brings one machine the size of a city block.

Bulldog, a Low Sun boss, on its mission 05 battlefieldBoss fight · Mission 05

Bulldog

  • 3×3 tiles
  • 1,000 HP
  • Missiles + laser

A super-heavy tank that takes up nine tiles. Each enemy turn it marks where its missiles and its laser will land, then fires. Anything in its path gets crushed, even its own side. Destroy it and the mission is won.

Falken, a Low Sun boss, on its mission 10 battlefieldBoss fight · Mission 10

Falken

  • 3×3 command ship
  • Missile lanes
  • Airstrikes

A flying command ship over an island of towns. It charges four missile lanes, fires, and calls in airstrikes that flatten buildings. Get out of the marked lanes or hide behind a building, then bring it down.

Build your army

28 units across land, air and sea. Every one has a job, and a weakness another unit covers.

“Because every unit has a job. Rifles capture, armour pushes, and the mortar attacks from safety.”

Every CO rides inside one of your units. The shaded tiles around it are the aura: it starts as a cross and grows with each kill, to a square and then a diamond. Units inside it get the CO’s passive.

Chain of Command

Discipline under pressure. A young officer still learning the weight of his rank. He trusts the field manual and the people beside him.

Nobody fights alone. Tight formations, clear orders and a line held together.

PassiveChain of Command

Units inside his aura gain extra attack and defence while they stand next to another friendly unit. His aura rewards advancing as a block, not in single file.

Hold the Line

Four campaigns holding the line. A veteran of desperate defenses, Helena turns every position into a fortress.

Every inch has a price. She digs in, waits and makes the enemy pay to advance.

PassiveHold the Line

Her aura does not push, it covers. Units inside it gain more defence than under any other commander, moving or not, but not a single point of extra attack. Ground she covers is ground that holds.

Hold the Line in a Low Sun battle: Helena’s Rifles dig in with armour and a Mortar beside them, and let the enemy Colossus come to them.

Eyes Open

First to know. A reconnaissance and signals specialist who maps the battlefield before the others finish deploying.

Information decides. Mara finds what the enemy wants hidden and fights with that advantage.

PassiveEyes Open

Units inside her aura see one tile further, and uncover what hides (forest, reef, a dived hull) from one tile further too.

Eyes Open in a Low Sun battle: Fog of war on. Mara’s Skirmisher lights up a wide ring of the map and spots enemy Rifles and a tank across the water.

Breaking Point

Into the breach. A shock commander forged by short, fierce campaigns. He picks a weak point and commits the whole attack.

Keep the momentum. Once the line gives way, Darius keeps pushing.

PassiveMomentum

Direct-fire units inside his aura hit far harder. Whatever shoots from the back rank gets the usual bonus: Darius leads from the front.

Field Repair

Raised among scrap. A field engineer who keeps machines running long after anyone else would have written them off.

There is always a fix. Where others see an exhausted army, Sofia finds something to repair and a way forward.

PassiveImprovised Logistics

Her aura resupplies at dawn like a convoy: units inside it wake with full fuel and ammo, and Engineers inside it finish a bridge in a single day. The unit carrying her never runs out of fuel. It does not repair.

Improvised Logistics in a Low Sun battle: Sofia rides a Wagon at the centre of her column: Engineer, Medic, Salvo and a Bastion, all topped up every morning.

The Ledger

A contact in every depot. A supply broker long before becoming a commander, she knows where to look when the usual routes fail.

There is always something left. She keeps her forces going through good deals and stocks nobody else can find.

PassiveSupply Network

Any factory, airport, dock or carrier deck under her aura sells for 10% less.

Brute Force

First on the front line. Built like the vehicles he drives, Branko usually stands wherever the fighting is fiercest.

Hit harder. When an attack fails, Branko sees only one answer: bring more force.

PassiveBrute Force

Units inside his aura hit harder than under any other commander, and take more damage in return. His formations win the turn or lose it outright.

The Red Hawk

A broken promise. He once flew medicine to isolated towns. When high command diverted an evacuation’s fuel, he lost his pilots and contact with his sister. Then they forged his signature to blame him.

No tank runs dry. His loyalty is now ruthless: he would seize a hospital’s fuel before losing another aircraft. The Red Hawk does not wait for reinforcements; he prepares them.

PassiveDawn’s Promise

His aircraft gain +20% attack and +10% defence, but only inside his aura. At the start of his turn, aircraft inside it refill fuel and ammunition without healing. Outside the aura there is no bonus and no supply.

Dawn’s Promise in a Low Sun battle: Erik flies a Kestrel with a Falcon, a Hornet and a Vulture in his aura. The Rifles beside him get nothing: his bonus is for aircraft only.

The Marshal

War on the map table. A marshal and staff officer, Viktor commands with the precision of someone who has calculated every move.

One coordinated strike. His orders bring separate columns together as a single force.

PassivePerfect Coordination

Units inside his aura hit much harder than under any other commander, but get no special defence from it. His aura is purely offensive: his troops strike first or they take it.

Cold Ledger

Nothing wasted. A logistics officer who rose to command by counting the cost of every decision. To Selene, an army is also a ledger that must balance.

Nothing idle. Every resource has a destination and every unit a job.

PassiveAbsolute Efficiency

Indirect-fire units inside her aura reach one tile further, her own carrier included, but take 10% more damage in return.

Absolute Efficiency in a Low Sun battle: Selene rides a Salvo, selected here, with a Mortar and a Sentinel beside it. Every gun in the aura reaches one tile further.
